(Kiwanis Field Clinton, NY) The Utica Hurricanes 9u started its season off with a sweep of their double header against the Rome River Rats. Game one pitcher Jaadiell Romero (Utica, NY) (1-0) tossed five innings and kept contact to a minimum, striking out 12 and only allowing three hits in the win. The Hurricanes managed 4 runs on 4 hits and Josh Martinez (Utica, NY) picked up the save with a shutdown 6th inning. The final was 4-0. Manager Cliff Bennett was very please overall with the performance of his players “I thought we did a great job staying patient in the batter’s box, the first time through the lineup the River Rats pitcher had the boys guessing but everyone made the proper adjustments and came through the next time around”.
In game two the Hurricanes jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in a 13-2 win. The Hurricanes put up 11 hits. Liam Noonan (New Hartford, NY) 2-3 2-RBI, Jake Rockford (New Hartford, NY) 2-3 1-RBI, Jaadiell Romero 2-3 1-RBI, and Vincent Martino (Clinton, NY) 1-3 2-RBI lead the hit parade. (Utica, NY) Jake Hall (Rome, NY) is the newest recruit to join the Utica Hurricane’s 12u Elite Baseball Team. The four-time Cal Ripken All Star Catcher/ Pitcher should fit in nicely with current All Star Catcher’s Josh Duval (Utica, NY) and Mason Snell (St. Johnsville, NY). Head Coach Rocco Bouse is very excited about what Hall can contribute to the team. “We are very familiar with the impact Jake can have on the outcome of a game both offensively and defensively. “Behind the plate, Jake is very mobile with very good baseball instincts and an above average arm. Offensively Jake is a very dangerous hitter, he is a contact hitter with power to all fields”. Hall showed his power last year in the Cal Ripken 11u State Tournament when he went 4 for 4 with two homeruns. “Jake has had several good workouts with us this winter and we expect he will contribute on and off the field day one” Bouse added. The 8 time Tournament Champions, 2014 & 2015 USSSA’s #1 State Ranked Canes open the 2016 season April 16th. & 17th at Champion Events, Powerade Opening Day Challenge” in Syracuse, New York.
